Moscow Summit of 2015

India- Russia relations did not come across any kind of strife or variance in the past years. Both the countries have seen a stunning or august growth of 22 per cent in trade.

In the year 1971, USSR has been a shield in obstructing or hindering America's intrusion in-between India and Pakistan in the war. The strong Indo-Russia bond flickered as USSR dismissed. Again in recent years, the relation strengthened with the entrant of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. Both, the Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi and the Russian president, Vladimir Putin has confined or immured a good rapport not only among them but also among the two nations. Russia and India, both are the members of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit for the promotion of basically non-interference, equality and mutual benefits.

Russia and India, are also the members of SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) summit to adopt decisions and guidelines on important matters. Military forces are conducted to promote cooperation and coordination against terrorism and external threats to maintain stability. Russia was also very much interested in joining SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) summit with observer status with Australia, China, Japan, Mauritius and others. India, being the Second largest market for the Russian defence industry. It is really an amazing one as India has an embassy in Moscow and Russia has an embassy in New Delhi.

In an opinion poll, Moscow stated that Russia identifies India as one of their top five ‘friends’ among Belarus, China, Kazakstan and Syria. IRIGC (Indo-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission) is the steering committee as it is an important part that conducts affairs at governmental level betwixt both the countries. It is divided into two parts. One comprising of trade, economic, scientific, technological and cultural co-operation and the other being Military-Technical Cooperation. Both the parts of IRIGC meet annually. For several decades the Soviet Union has been an important supplier of defence equipment for India. Russia holds 68% of the military aids among others where USA 14% and Israel 7.2%.
